Lactuca sativa

Days to Maturity: 55 to full maturity; 30 to baby heads

Brown Goldring Lettuce is an award-winning English romaine renowned for its superior flavor. It is unusually cold tolerant and has a satiating crisp texture with a sweet flavor. Its heads are compact, conical and bronze-tipped, producing sturdy, canoe-shaped leaves great for wrapping and stuffing. It grows 8-10" tall with 8" long leaves. It was awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's prestigious Award of Merit in 1923. It surpasses other varieties in Vitamin C content. Ideal for fresh salads and culinary creations needing a sturdy, flavorful green. Named for the Goldring family in England who introduced it.

Planting Instructions: Sow Brown Goldring Lettuce seeds outdoors in early spring thru late summer, every 3 weeks. Sprinkle 1/4" soil on top, keep evenly moist until germinated.

Seed Saving Instructions: Allow most vigorous and tastiest plants to bolt & flower. Collect Brown Goldring Lettuce seed when white fluffs form from the flowerheads. Store seeds in a paper or mesh bag in a cool, dark and dry location.
